An animal lover since childhood, nurturer by nature and farmer by
ancestry, raising alpacas is a very natural fit for me. As a
teenager on Long Island, I had horses and was heavily involved in
training and showing them. This set the stage for my life
experiences ahead which has always included countless fur-friends.
As a young adult, I had the pleasure of raising Jacob sheep, birthing
out 60 plus lambs each spring, and also raised Scottish cattle,
French Alpine goats and Percheron horses.
During the early 80's, I attended Laney College in Oakland,
California, studying cabinetry and furniture design. Upon returning
to Vermont, I began a career as a general contractor and owner of
Woodstock Finishing Touch, a business which is still growing today.
My projects have included restoration of fine homes, churches and new
construction of all kinds. My 25 years of experience have played an
integral part in creating optimal housing and pasture for our
alpacas. As part of our services at Barron Hill Alpacas, I am
available to assess specific needs at your property and offer skilled
advice regarding barn design, pasture layout and fencing.
I find joy in each day with our gentle-spirited alpacas and am
thrilled every time I see them grazing, caring for their babies or
just pronking around the pasture. Also living here are 12 cats,
Otis the Newfie, Gladys our collie and Dave the miniature horse. I
am committed to training our alpacas to relate well and be
comfortable with visitors as well as in the show ring. Over the past
several years, I have fortunate to train with Marty McGee Bennett,
John Mallon and Kathy Spaulding. I am always happy to share the
knowledge I've gained and appreciate the ongoing education that comes
from fellow alpaca breeders, as well.
