As we approach our seventh year in
the alpaca industry At Barron Hill Alpacas we have decided to open
our farm to outside breedings. We realize that in so doing we are
faced with the concern for health and safety for our alpacas as
well as yours. We want to minimize exposure for our herd and also
your alpacas that will be agisted at Barron Hill for breeding or
arrive for driveby breedings.
In order to provide excellent care
for our herd and your alpacas, we will be requiring all alpacas
coming to Barron Hill to have some basic testing done before arrival
and after arrival.
We ask for everyone's cooperation in
this process, as we believe that prevention is worth its weight
in gold. We want you to feel confident that you have chosen an
excellent male to compliment your female and also to feel confident
that we will be vigilant/ responsible in caring for your alpaca.
The following tests and supportive
documents will be required
All alpacas will have BVDV and PCR
for Haemolamae testing and provide appropriate documentation. Transporting
alpacas can be a stressful event and any compromised alpaca may
have un-detected health issues become exaserbated during travel.
All alpacas will have an individual
fecal exam tested by Cornell. Samples from the ding pile can show
false negatives. This process takes at least a week to get the
results. We require that the fecal is run with -in two weeks of
arrival at Barron Hill. Cornell provides a comprehensive fecal
and has the capability of running very accurate testing. The cost
for this panel is approximatly $36.00
All alpacas arriving at Barron Hill
will be in a quarantine area for at least three weeks to assess
their condition, keep accurate weight records weekly and run a
second fecal panel at Barron Hills expense to insure that your
alpaca is in the best condition to join our herd.
We would also ask you to write in a
brief paragraph, a description of your alpaca including any specific
behaviors or needs we should know about while they will be under
our care.
